West Coast Fishculture was founded in 1973 by Ward Griffioen as a small family business which quickly grew into a substantial farming operation. Ward helped pioneer the opportunity for salmon farming in the Pacific Northwest and was always a visionary in the quest to do fish farming the right way. We continue to hold true to Ward’s founding principle of producing high quality fish in a socially and environmentally responsible way and now lead the world in best practices for farming fish sustainably.
Lois Lake Steelhead
Our healthy and flavourful Steelhead are native to the Pacific Northwest and are favoured by seafood lovers everywhere. Steelhead are characterized by their bright red coloured flesh, rich buttery flavour, and firm, moist texture. Lois Lake Steelhead is high in omega-3 fatty acids, making them an excellent choice for the health-conscious consumer.
Farm to Fork
Our Steelhead are raised in the mountain-fed waters of Lois Lake located in coastal BC far from any industrial or agricultural waste without the use of antibiotics or hormones. Our fish are humanely harvested and placed on ice for immediate delivery to our processing partners at Blundell SeaFoods for final hand portioning and preparation for our customers to ensure maximum quality and freshness. Doing Things Better
World Leading Technology
West Coast Fishculture has had a long tradition of leading the way in the pursuit of best practices in sustainability through the use of novel technology. First to bring recirculation systems to salmon hatcheries on the coast, first to recover processing waste to oil for heat and first to go full scale closed containment with our proprietary AgriMarine Floating Closed Containment System. We lead and others follow!
